An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Revoke DOGE transparency exemption, preserve public's right to know

22 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

As members of Congress, your role in providing oversight and promoting transparency in government operations is critical. The decision to designate the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Presidential Records Act raises serious concerns about accountability and the public's right to information. Shielding DOGE's records from disclosure until 2034 contradicts principles of open government and undermines the ability to scrutinize initiatives that could drastically impact federal agencies and services relied upon by your constituents. Stated goals of maximizing transparency and eliminating barriers like FOIA requests are at odds with granting DOGE special exemptions from public records laws. The public deserves insight into efforts that could significantly reshape how the government functions and spends taxpayer dollars. I urge you to challenge this declaration and ensure DOGE operates under the same disclosure requirements as other federal entities. Protecting the ability to access information about consequential reforms will uphold democratic values, bolster public trust, and align with commitments to increased government transparency and accountability to the people you represent.
