For over a decade, big chain pharmacies have subjected staff to poor working conditions to meet impossible sales quotas, leaving the public vulnerable to medicine errors, bodily harm, and even death. This touches anyone who has a prescription or knows someone who does. We are asking that big chain pharmacies be temporarily required to stop all non-essential pharmacy tasks until patient safety is achieved and maintainable.
Conditions have exponentially worsened since the pandemic; chains cut staffing and shorten hours despite an increase in pharmacy services, including COVID testing and vaccinations.
Pharmacies are buckling under the weight of this public health and safety crisis. A recent walkout at a dozen Kansas City CVS pharmacies highlights the severity of this issue and how urgently it needs to be addressed, particularly as we head into cold/ flu season.
Please require big chain pharmacies to remove all non-essential pharmacy tasks across the industry to focus on patient based needs first. We need to preserve SAFE access to healthcare/ pharmacy services for everyone.
