Stop Trump’s Unlawful Military Deployment in Los Angeles and Beyond

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Alarm at Military Deployment President Trump has ordered 700 active-duty Marines and over 4,000 National Guard troops into Los Angeles following mass ICE raids that sparked peaceful protests. This unprecedented use of federal forces against Americans exercising First Amendment rights demands immediate Congressional attention. Manufactured Crisis Trump triggered the unrest by directing workplace raids across Los Angeles. When citizens peacefully objected, he used their response to justify military deployment—despite objections from Mayor Bass and Governor Newsom. Overstepping Legal Limits Trump has not invoked the Insurrection Act. Instead, he leans on vague “inherent authority” and Title 10 powers that permit protecting federal property but do not authorize military involvement in civilian law enforcement. Experts warn this move appears to violate the Posse Comitatus Act and sets a dangerous precedent. Authoritarian Danger Deploying troops against protesters mirrors tactics seen in authoritarian regimes. This is not protecting democracy—it is threatening it. State Resistance Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass have condemned the action as “purposefully inflammatory” and “a serious breach of state sovereignty.” At least 22 Democratic governors have signed a joint statement calling this an “alarming abuse of power.” Wider Implications This is not just about Los Angeles. If Congress fails to intervene, any city or state may face similar military crackdowns. Free speech and peaceful protest are cornerstones of our democracy—this assault must not be normalized. Congress Must Act I respectfully urge Congress to: Demand immediate withdrawal of federal troops not requested by state officials. Hold emergency hearings on the legality and scope of this deployment. Advance legislation to strictly limit domestic military use without congressional oversight. Congress must act now. A government that polices protest with armed troops is not a democracy—it is on the road to tyranny.
