An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives
Oppose postal privatization and support H.Res.70
28 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
The United States Postal Service (USPS) is a public service enshrined in our country's Constitution that serves as a lifeline for millions of Americans nationwide. Privatizing the Postal Service would have far-reaching and damaging
consequences for every American who depends on our service.
As a constituent from your district, I ask you to oppose postal privatization by signing on to H.Res.70, which calls on Congress to take all appropriate measures to ensure that the Postal Service remains an independent establishment of the federal government and not subject to privatization.
Dedicated postal workers process and deliver nearly 376 million pieces of mail and packages to over 168.6 million addresses at least six days a week. USPS's universal service obligation allows communities large and small to benefit from the same level of service, regardless of location, wealth, or what is being delivered. USPS is a self-sustaining, independent establishment of the federal government, does not receive taxpayer funding, and relies on revenue derived from the sale of postal services and products.
Privatizing the Postal Service would jeopardize the jobs of 640,000 postal employees, over 73,000 of whom are military veterans, and impact the 7.9 million Americans in the mailing
industry. It would endanger the security of the nation's mail system, threatening the safe delivery of prescription drugs, money, and election mail. Privatization would slash service quality and hike prices beyond affordability.
Additionally, it could cease delivery for America's rural communities.
Please show your support for postal workers and their critical work by signing onto H.Res.70.
