Stop Trump From Making Homelessness and the Housing Crisis Worse!

congress I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to prevent an escalating housing crisis. The Trump administration has stalled at least $60 million in funding meant for affordable housing, throwing critical housing projects into uncertainty and jeopardizing the well-being of thousands of families. This decision will increase homelessness and job losses in our communities.
This funding, intended for small community development nonprofits, was supposed to serve as seed money for affordable housing projects, leveraging additional public and private investment. Instead, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has abruptly canceled contracts with key nonprofit organizations responsible for distributing these funds, leaving crucial housing developments in limbo.
Projects across the country are now at risk. Workers—HVAC technicians, local contractors, homeownership counselors—are losing their jobs. Families waiting for affordable housing are left stranded. In Mississippi, a 36-unit development in Biloxi may never get off the ground because promised funds for an environmental review have been blocked. Communities devastated by disasters like Hurricane Katrina are now being denied the support they need to rebuild.
This is not a bureaucratic error. This is political sabotage. The administration claims these funding freezes are in line with Trump’s executive order targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. In reality, this is an attack on working-class Americans and a direct assault on efforts to fight homelessness.
I urge you to take immediate steps to:
• Investigate HUD’s decision to block these critical funds.
• Demand the reinstatement of these grants without delay.
• Protect the future of affordable housing by ensuring funding is not politicized.
The people in our communities cannot afford more delays. This decision will lead to an increase in homelessness and economic instability. I urge you to act swiftly to reverse this disastrous policy before more Americans suffer.
