I am writing to urge you to stand firmly against any efforts to cut funding for public education, whether through budget reductions, voucher schemes, or privatization efforts. Education is the foundation of our economy, national security, and democracy, and weakening it threatens the future of the United States.
There have been increasing calls from figures such as Elon Musk and former President Trump to defund or divert resources away from public education. These proposals, if enacted, would exacerbate educational inequities, undermine workforce development, and diminish our nation’s ability to compete globally. At a time when we should be investing in STEM programs, skilled trades, teacher retention, and student resources, cutting funding would be disastrous for our children and our future.
As my elected representative, I urge you to:
1. Protect and increase federal funding for public education, ensuring that all students—regardless of background—have access to high-quality learning opportunities.
2. Reject any proposals that weaken public education in favor of privatization schemes that leave students behind.
3. Support teachers and education professionals by advocating for higher wages, better working conditions, and professional development programs.
4. Expand access to higher education and vocational training, so that all Americans have pathways to economic success.
The strength of our nation depends on an educated, skilled, and informed population. Any effort to weaken public education is a direct attack on America’s future. I ask that you not only oppose these harmful proposals but also publicly champion policies that strengthen education for all.
