THE TEXAS GOP WILL OWN THE DESTRUCTION IN BIG BEND

Protecting nature from greed is an ongoing struggle. Right now the state of Texas, or rather the people of the state of Texas, are in a battle to save the national treasure called Big Bend. Anyone who has ever visited this park will never forget it. Overriding public sentiment the Trump administration is dead set on creating a barrier to illegal immigration where there is no need. Mother Nature has created a barrier that no man can recreate. And study after study has shown that. Law enforcement has stated that. Land owners, like the desert landscape, are being bulldozed in the name of national security. This is a $1.7 BILLION with a B boondoggle. And the only regurgitated response from Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s office is “Rugged, isolated areas like Big Bend are great opportunities to deploy technology to aid in securing the border.” Here is just one reaction from a multitude of Texans outraged by this assault… “Regarding “John Cornyn and James Talarico agree: Don’t mess with Big Bend” (Aug. 12): Iconic documentary filmmaker Ken Burns called our national parks America's best idea. One of America's worst ideas is unfolding before our eyes out west. Big Bend National Park, one of Texas' (and the country's) most pristine wild spaces, is under assault. Bulldozers are scarring and grading a pristine landscape, building miles of vehicle barrier, patrol roads — often next to current paved roads — right through the park at a cost of $1.7 billion of your tax dollars. The Big Bend sector is the quietest part of the entire U.S. border, receiving 1.3% of crossings in 2025. The harsh terrain is its own wall, and yet our nation's leaders have awarded no-bid contracts and waived numerous laws, allowing senseless destruction of our national park. Where is our governor in this? Not a peep about a project that nobody — including all five sheriffs of the surrounding counties — in the region wants, and it will most certainly decimate vital tourism industries in the area. Anybody who has ever enjoyed the solitude and majesty of Big Bend should be horrified. I am. Let Texas' leaders hear it now, and let them feel it in the fall at the ballot box, if they remain silent. Don't let them mess with Texas, y'all.” Hear hear. This is beyond politics. We should ALL let them hear us. Enough is enough is enough.
