Support Bipartisan Road Funding Plan for Michigan's Future
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to urge you to support and pass a comprehensive bipartisan road funding plan for Michigan. As a concerned constituent, I believe this is crucial for our state's infrastructure and economic future.
Recent survey results commissioned by Governor Gretchen Whitmer reveal that 89% of Michiganders consider it important or very important for the legislature to pass a bipartisan roads plan this year. This overwhelming majority clearly demonstrates the urgency and public demand for action.
While 57% of respondents acknowledge improvements in road conditions over the past five years, with 64% reporting easier and safer travel due to recent repairs, we cannot afford to lose momentum. Governor Whitmer's administration has made significant progress, fixing over 24,500 lane miles of road and 1,900 bridges. However, we are approaching a critical juncture as current funding sources near expiration.
The consequences of inaction are severe. Without a long-term plan, 64% of surveyed Michiganders are very concerned about roads falling back into disrepair. This could lead to job losses, project delays, and increased costs for future repairs.
I strongly support the proposal to allocate 100% of the sales tax on gas towards fixing roads and bridges, an idea backed by 81% of survey respondents. This reallocation could provide a sustainable funding source for ongoing maintenance and improvements.
Time is of the essence. Delaying this decision will only exacerbate the problem, potentially undoing the progress we've made. I urge you to work across the aisle to craft and pass a comprehensive, long-term road funding solution. This is not just about smoother drives; it's about ensuring Michigan's economic competitiveness, public safety, and quality of life for years to come.
Your leadership on this issue is crucial. Please take immediate action to secure a bipartisan road funding plan that will benefit all Michiganders.
