As a Wisconsinite with over 20 years of experience working across Africa, I’ve seen firsthand how USAID programs promote stability, save lives, and reflect American values abroad. I’m deeply concerned about proposed cuts to USAID’s budget that would weaken U.S. leadership and risk greater instability overseas—instability that often ends up costing us far more in the long run.
Foreign aid isn’t charity—it’s a smart investment in our national security and economic interests. USAID’s work in global health, food security, and emergency response helps prevent crises before they escalate, reducing the need for costly military or disaster interventions.
Wisconsin stands to lose over $19 million in active USAID contracts and assistance if these cuts go forward. That’s funding tied to universities, nonprofits, and local jobs—investments that benefit our communities as well as our country’s standing.
I urge you to:
• Oppose cuts to USAID’s FY25 budget.
• Protect strong congressional earmarks for life-saving work in global health and food security.
Thank you for your attention to this issue. I hope you will help ensure that the United States remains a force for good—and a force for stability—in the world.
