I am your constituent, and I am writing to demand that you oppose H.R. 7661. This bill represents federal censorship disguised as education policy. It would allow the government to pressure schools into removing books and restricting ideas by threatening the loss of federal funding. That is not responsible governance — it is intimidation.
In a free country, the government does not decide which books Americans are allowed to read. Reading is a fundamental right, and every student deserves access to a broad range of literature that reflects the diversity, history, and complexity of our nation.
Education decisions belong to parents, educators, and local communities — not federal politicians imposing ideological mandates from Washington. H.R. 7661 overrides local judgment, pressures schools to censor their shelves, and undermines the First Amendment principles this country was founded upon.
Books that explore identity, history, and lived experience do not harm students. They help them develop empathy, critical thinking, and the ability to understand the world around them. Silencing those voices weakens education and betrays the values of a free society.
Congress must decide whether it stands for intellectual freedom or government censorship.
Vote NO on H.R. 7661.
Protect the right to read.
Defend the First Amendment.
