Support the Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act

Vote yes on the Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act, introduced by Senator Sanders and Representative Takano. American workers haven't seen the overtime threshold budge since 1938. Meanwhile, AI and automation have driven productivity through the roof — and almost none of those gains have gone to workers. That has to change. The bill is reasonable by design. It phases the overtime threshold down gradually from 40 to 32 hours over four years, and it explicitly prohibits employers from cutting pay or benefits in response. A UK pilot involving 61 organizations found sick days dropped 65 percent and staff departures fell 57 percent. San Juan County, Washington made a similar model permanent after seeing lower sick-leave use and real cost savings. The evidence is there. Workers in this country are putting in longer hours for lower real wages while $80 trillion in wealth has shifted to the top 1 percent. Pass this bill.
