An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Oppose Executive Order Threatening Agency Independence

167 so far! Help us get to 250 signers!

I am deeply alarmed by the recent executive order that eliminates the independence of regulatory agencies, consolidating unprecedented power within the executive branch. This move threatens the foundation of our democracy by placing agencies like the SEC, FCC, and FEC under direct White House control, effectively stripping them of their ability to operate free from political influence. This order grants the President unchecked authority over financial markets, elections, environmental policies, and legal interpretations. It also allows the Office of Management and Budget to withhold funding from agencies that do not comply, forcing them into submission. These changes dangerously erode the checks and balances that safeguard our government. I urge you to take immediate legislative action to block this order and restore the independence of these agencies. Please speak out against this power grab, push for congressional oversight, and work to ensure that no President—current or future—can dismantle our democratic institutions in this way.
