The rich are getting richer while the rest of us get poorer and poorer.

I’m writing to urge your support for an ultra-millionaire tax modeled on Elizabeth Warren’s proposal: an annual 2% tax on household net worth between $50 million and $1 billion, and 6% on net worth above $1 billion. We are reaching a breaking point in this country. People are dying because they can’t afford insulin, cancer treatment, or basic healthcare, while a small handful of people can afford yachts, multiple mansions, and vanity trips to space. This isn’t a distant, abstract problem; it’s happening now, and every year we fail to act, more families are pushed into debt, illness, and poverty while the ultra-wealthy grow richer. We cannot wait for the “right” political moment. The moment is now. The numbers make the moral case plain: the 400 richest Americans own more wealth than all Black households and a quarter of Latino households combined. The wealthiest 0.1%’s share of American wealth has nearly tripled since the late 1970s, while the bottom 90%’s share has fallen sharply over that same period. Working families are taxed on their income at rates far higher, relative to their wealth, than what the ultra-wealthy actually pay. This proposal is targeted and reasonable. It applies only to households worth $50 million or more, roughly the wealthiest 75,000 households in the country, meaning 99.9% of Americans would owe nothing additional. It includes strong anti-evasion measures, including increased IRS enforcement and an exit tax for anyone renouncing citizenship to dodge it. Estimated revenue is $3.75 trillion over ten years. This is money that could fund healthcare, housing, and basic necessities for the people who need them most. It is immoral, and un-American, to let people suffer and die while others buy their third yacht. I want to know: do you support this or a similar wealth tax, and what are you doing right now to make the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share? Thank you for your time on this urgent issue.
