An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Reject Discriminatory SAVE Act, Protect Voting Rights

3 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The SAVE Act is a deeply concerning piece of legislation that would erect unconstitutional barriers to voting and disenfranchise millions of eligible American citizens. Requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote flies in the face of the 14th Amendment's guarantee of equal protection under the law. Many citizens, especially from marginalized communities, may not have ready access to the limited forms of approved ID listed in the bill. This would amount to an unconstitutional poll tax and modern-day form of Jim Crow voter suppression tactics. The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy - we cannot allow it to be undermined in this way. I urge you to reject this blatantly discriminatory bill that would disproportionately deprive citizens of color, the elderly, students, and the poor of their fundamental right to vote. Our democracy is strengthened by more voices being heard at the ballot box, not fewer.
