Resistbot Petition: KOSA violates the 1st amendment

An open letter to the U.S. Congress

KOSA violates the 1st amendment

I'm one of your constituents. I'm writing to urge you to vote NO on KOSA - the Kids Online “Safety” Act. The bill's sponsors claim it will protect kids by placing a duty of care on online platforms to prevent anything that could be harmful. The power to decide what's harmful has been ceded to the FTC. FTC leadership is made by presidential appointment. Current president Lina Khan has one plan, but what happens when the next president is in the Oval Office? Do you trust an appointee not to abuse this enforcement power? And what about further down the line? What if it’s someone your party fundamentally disagrees with? What if YOU are censored? KOSA claims to protect kids, but it's poorly designed and, given time, it will absolutely and without question, harm children, adults, and anyone who values our constitutional right to free speech online. Vote NO on KOSA
