Support Final Passage of Equal Rights Amendment in Senate & House

I’m writing in favor of re-starting the legislative momentum towards adopting the Equal Rights Amendment (H.J. Resolution 80 for the House, and S.J. Resolution 38) for the Senate as part of our Constitution. It’s been gathering dust long enough, and we’ve never been closer.
All the same reasons for which it was proposed apply for women’s rights today: Equal Pay for Equal Work; moving towards gender parity in business and government; healthcare for women would finally move in a positive direction, and so on. So, we support Senator Hirono, Representative Pressley and others work to get this important Amendment over the finish line.
We believe there’s popular support to get it done. The Administration’s war on women’s rights has re-energized plenty of grassroots forces available to lobby, push and urge this along.
The Amendment would serve as a rallying point for progress and would solidify the hard-won gains of generations of women going back to 1923, the year it was first introduced. There are also generations of women that tried back in the 70s and 80s that are still around and ready to help win the fight.
President Kennedy said: “First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth.”
We would say the same thing: We believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, to see these words in the Constitution: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”
I urge you to do what you can to support this important work.
