I’m writing as your constituent asking you to join residents of Beverly Hills in publicly calling for an independent investigation with public disclosure into the allegations that Beverly Hills city officials and employees interfered with the lease of an abortion clinic set to open in the city, as reported in the July 11th issue of the LA Times.
You have been a long-time advocate for abortion. You’ve often spoken about attacks on access in other states. Your silence when it’s happening in your own backyard is concerning.
Although a legal case is ongoing between the clinic and the city, there is no guarantee that the public will ever have access to what is uncovered during discovery.
The residents of Beverly Hills deserve to know if their elected officials and city employees failed to protect their right to medical care. Voters throughout California need to know that city governments in this state will defend their constitutionally-protected rights. It is also vital to see exactly how far-right extremists are working to influence local politics behind the scenes.
Please stand with residents of Beverly Hills, as well as members of Reproductive Freedom For All, The Feminist Majority, Heart of LA Democrats, Stonewall Democrats, Santa Monica Democratic Club, LA Guild for Reproductive Health, and HODG (Hang Out Do Good) in calling for an independent investigation with public disclosure into the contact between extremists and city representatives, and the role the city of Beverly Hills played in the recission of DuPont’s lease.
