Winding back rights that we have already agreed are rights is a good way to illustrate that we are moving backwards, not forwards, in our understanding of humanity. If you choose, as you have with gender markers, to further disenfranchise fully 20% of the population by reversing Obergefell, you'll have rung the death knell on LGBT rights in America for the foreseeable future. It is incredible that we already agreed that the right to marriage and be considered a legally bonded couple in our society is being revisited over one individual who, quite simply, has signed up for a job she does not want to do. Declaring that Kim Davis is allowed to work in a job that she has a moral objection to opens the door for workers to quite literally get a job and refuse to work it. If a teacher has a moral opposition to, for example, teaching Black students, would we roll back Brown v Board of Education, or would we declare that this person should perhaps find a different profession? A person working within the judicial system should be obligated to do their job, and if they cannot do the job required of them, they should find a different job. Kim Davis needs to find a job better aligned with her personal belief systems, rather than imposing her personal beliefs onto the rights and freedoms of a massive number of Americans. Do the right thing and uphold Obergefell.
