Oppose Military Action Against Greenland to Preserve NATO Alliance

I am writing to urge you to support Senator Ruben Gallego's resolution blocking any U.S. military action against Greenland. The recent U.S. attack on Venezuela that resulted in the capture of Nicolas Maduro has created legitimate concerns that Greenland could be next, and such action would fundamentally undermine our NATO alliance and potentially trigger a catastrophic conflict. As Senator Chris Murphy stated, if the United States invades Greenland, European NATO members would be obligated under Article 5 to defend Denmark against us. Article 5 never anticipated the invading country would be a NATO member itself. This scenario could fracture the most successful military alliance in history and leave us isolated on the world stage. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has made clear that Greenland is not for sale and has urged the United States to stop threatening a historically close ally. Denmark and Greenland have repeatedly requested meetings with Secretary of State Marco Rubio throughout 2025 to discuss these threats, but those requests have gone unanswered. This diplomatic silence while military threats escalate is deeply troubling. The United States already has wide access to Greenland through our existing defense agreement with Denmark. Greenland is covered by NATO's security guarantee, and we maintain a significant presence there for Arctic operations. Military invasion is unnecessary to achieve our legitimate national security interests in the region. Senator Gallego has introduced an amendment to the Senate Defense Appropriations bill prohibiting the use of funds for military force against Greenland. I strongly urge you to support this amendment and any similar measures. We cannot allow another forever war, especially one that would pit us against our closest democratic allies and potentially trigger a broader conflict. Please take a clear public stand against any military action toward Greenland and work to preserve the NATO alliance that has guaranteed peace in Europe for over 75 years.
