Israel's latest aggression in the central Gaza Strip has resulted in mounting civilian casualties, with residential homes in Deir el-Balah and the al-Zawaida refugee camp being bombed. At least 15 civilians, including entire families, were killed in the Israeli air strikes on Thursday night, and dozens more were injured or remain trapped under the rubble. Among the victims were elderly women, children, and people with special needs who had already been displaced from their homes in previous attacks. The United Nations reports that 1.9 million Gazans, over 80% of the population, have now been displaced by this violence. These indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas are unjustifiable and amount to war crimes. An immediate ceasefire must be called to prevent further loss of innocent life. Additionally, the flow of funding and arms enabling Israel's military offensives against the occupied Palestinian territories should be halted. Furthermore, restoring full funding for UNRWA, the UN agency supporting Palestinian refugees, is critical to providing humanitarian aid and protection for the growing numbers of displaced civilians. These urgent steps are necessary to de-escalate the conflict and address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.
