Oppose the SAVE Act & Oppose the Lies. Uphold Free and Fair Elections Now!

I’m taking pen in hand today to urge you in the strongest possible terms to oppose and Vote NO on the the SAVE Act, H.R. 22. This profoundly undemocratic piece of legislation is a deliberate attempt by Republican members of Congress to destroy free and fair elections and retain power. We know what they’re doing, make no mistake. This bill represents an egregious attempt to disenfranchise millions of eligible U.S. citizens, disproportionately impacting communities of color. It imposes onerous documentary proof of citizenship requirements for voter registration, erecting significant barriers to the ballot box. This legislation perpetuates the dangerous myth of widespread non-citizen voting, which lacks any factual basis and exploits demographic fears.  It defies common sense that any undocumented immigrant would risk losing their freedom and their families just to cast a single ballot. Instead of promoting election integrity, the SAVE Act would hinder free and fair elections by blocking voter registration, enabling systematic purges without proper notification, and intimidating immigrant communities from exercising their lawful voting rights. Our nation commemorates the 60th anniversaries of Bloody Sunday and the Voting Rights Act, yet voting rights remain under assault. Since Shelby County v. Holder, 31 states have enacted 114 restrictive voting laws disproportionately burdening voters of color. Republican legislators, including the Speaker, that back this bill are breaking every oath. They will someday be excoriated from society, but for now, this bill must be opposed. Rather than enacting measures like the SAVE Act that disenfranchise citizens, Congress must safeguard voting rights by passing legislation such as the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, the Freedom to Vote Act, the Native American Voting Rights Act, and the DC Statehood bill. Upholding free and fair elections for all eligible citizens must be the priority. Thank you for your attention to this crucial matter. NO on the SAVE Act.
