An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Stop trans erasure

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The erasure of references to transgender and queer individuals from the Stonewall National Monument's webpage is a deplorable act of historical revisionism and marginalization. This move dishonors the pivotal role played by transgender women of color like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, whose courage and sacrifices were instrumental in sparking the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement at Stonewall. Attempting to erase their contributions is a direct attack on the transgender community. We must recognize that Stonewall is transgender history, and this website must be updated to accurately reflect the true diversity of identities involved in this watershed moment for civil rights. Removing the word "transgender" distorts the truth and disrespects those who fought oppression. I urge you to take immediate action to restore the inclusive "LGBTQ+" language on this monumentally important webpage, properly honoring the legacy of all who stood up against injustice at Stonewall.
