Restore professionalism and independence of U.S. military leadership

The recent dismissal of several senior military leaders, including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and service branch chiefs, is deeply concerning. These were highly experienced and competent officers who were seemingly removed not for any failure of performance, but due to perceived disloyalty to the former president. This attack on the independence and nonpartisan nature of the military leadership threatens to undermine the entire institution. The U.S. military has long operated above partisan politics, with leaders selected based solely on merit and sworn to uphold the Constitution – not personal loyalty to any individual. Eroding this core principle puts the nation at risk of having its armed forces wielded as a tool of authoritarianism rather than serving the interests of the country and its democratic values. I urge you to take immediate action to protect the military from further politicization and restore its tradition of apolitical, professional leadership. The American people must have full confidence that those commanding our military forces are acting with honor, integrity and commitment to the Constitution above all else. Ensuring competent and independent military leadership should be among the highest priorities to safeguard our national security and democratic foundations. Swift corrective measures are needed to reaffirm our nation's civilian control of the military and prevent any further erosion of this vital institution.
