U.S. Vote Against UN Resolution Condemning Russia’s Aggression in Ukraine

I am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment over the United States’ recent vote against a United Nations resolution that condemned Russia as the aggressor in its war against Ukraine. As you are aware, on February 24, 2025, the U.S. joined just 16 other nations—including Russia, Belarus, North Korea, and Hungary—in opposing this measure, which marks the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
This decision is deeply troubling and does not reflect the values of democracy, sovereignty, and human rights that our country has historically championed. The invasion of Ukraine has resulted in immense human suffering, war crimes, and the displacement of millions of innocent people. By voting against this resolution, the United States appears to be siding with authoritarian regimes rather than standing firmly with our democratic allies and international law.
The U.S. has long played a leadership role in upholding global stability and defending nations under attack. Our failure to support this resolution sends the wrong message to our allies and emboldens aggressive, anti-democratic actors on the world stage. Furthermore, aligning ourselves with nations like North Korea and Belarus undermines our credibility and moral authority in global affairs.
I urge you to publicly address this issue and work to ensure that the United States reaffirms its commitment to Ukraine and the principles of sovereignty and democracy. Our nation must not waver in its support for those fighting against tyranny and aggression. I ask that you advocate for stronger, more decisive action in Congress to uphold these principles.
Please let me and the others that voted for you know where you stand on this matter.
