An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Increasing the minimum wage would increase general welfare AND help the budget

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Hi, I wanted to mention something that should, in the long term, reduce the federal deficit and increase the general wellbeing of the people: Raise the minimum wage. Working families would be able to afford to pay more towards housing, food, and other needs, reducing need for the government to supplement funding for basic human needs. There would be more wage taxes collected (income tax, FICA, etc). More consumer spending power would stimulate the economy, which would boost jobs (in the long term: according to the CBO widget, indexing the wage to a price index would change from a drop in employment while the economy adjusts, to later begin to slowly increase employment, and there may be unconsidered factors). More consumer spending would mean more business taxes could be collected as well. all the best!
