It’s time to make the filibuster a part of history.

Senate Republicans have blocked bipartisan legislation to create a commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection at the U.S Capitol even though the Democrats made changes to the bill to earn their support. The bill failed even though a majority of the Senate was in favor of passing it -- because of the filibuster. If it wasn’t clear before, this failed vote is yet further proof that the filibuster is an obstructionist force in our democracy. In addition to blocking the January 6 commission bill, Senate Republicans are threatening to filibuster essential democracy reform legislation like S. 1, the For the People Act. This all comes as Republican state legislatures across the country are passing hundreds of sweeping voter suppression laws that all but assure Republican victory in the years to come. We must eliminate the filibuster to save our democracy. I am urging you to eliminate the filibuster to pass critical democracy reforms.
