I urge you to oppose Assembly Bill 672. This legislation poses serious threats to constitutional rights and Wisconsin’s fiscal health.
AB 672’s overly broad language could criminalize legitimate political activism, including advocacy related to Israel and Palestine. Organizations like Healthcare Workers for Palestine have already been designated as “terrorist organizations” by private groups like the ADL. The bill explicitly mentions “foreign students,” endangering international student communities, and creates pathways to classify transgender activism as “Transgender Ideology Inspired Violent Extremism.”
Beyond civil liberties concerns, AB 672 imposes substantial unfunded costs on Wisconsin. The bill directs significant funds to police training, surveillance of “local communities,” organizational watchlists, and citizen reporting programs. It increases prison sentences from 3 years minimum to up to 10 years, creating long-term fiscal burdens.
This bill criminalizes freedom of speech and will extend to repress many issues beyond foreign policy opinions. The fiscal impact analysis confirms it will “increase costs” with “long range fiscal implications” that cannot be absorbed within existing budgets.
Please vote NO on AB 672 and protect both our constitutional rights and Wisconsin’s fiscal responsibility.
