Oppose Qatari Military Facility at Mountain Home Air Force Base

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the recently announced agreement allowing the Qatari Emiri Air Force to build a facility at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. This decision, made by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and announced alongside Qatari Minister of Defense Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, sets a dangerous precedent for foreign military presence on U.S. soil.
While I understand the stated benefits of enhanced combined training and increased interoperability, I believe this agreement compromises our national security and sovereignty. The fact that there are currently no foreign military bases in the U.S. is a point of pride and security for our nation. Allowing Qatar to establish a facility, even if only for training purposes, blurs this important distinction.
I am deeply concerned about the Trump administration's increasingly close relationship with Qatar. The recent executive order assuring Qatar's security following an Israeli military strike in Doha, coupled with Qatar's role in the Israel-Hamas peace deal, suggests a level of entanglement that may not align with America's best interests. Furthermore, the ethical and national security concerns raised by President Trump's acceptance of a luxury Boeing 747-8 jetliner from Qatar for use as Air Force One are deeply troubling.
I urge you to take immediate action to review and reconsider this agreement. Our military bases should remain under full U.S. control and oversight. Instead of allowing foreign militaries to build facilities on our soil, we should focus on strengthening our own armed forces and maintaining clear boundaries with our international partners.
Please advocate for the termination of this agreement and work to establish clear guidelines that prevent similar arrangements in the future. Our national security and the integrity of our military installations must be our top priority. I look forward to hearing about the steps you will take to address this critical issue.
