I am writing as your constituent to urge you to reject the current budget bill due to several deeply troubling provisions that undermine our democracy, threaten fair elections, and compromise transparency and accountability in government.
While the bill is presented as essential to funding government operations, it includes hidden provisions that have no place in a budget measure. Among the most concerning:
• A ban on funding for the DISCLOSE Act, which would shine a light on dark money and prevent billionaires and special interests from secretly influencing our elections.
• Prohibitions on the IRS from enforcing rules that stop nonprofits from engaging in political activity while hiding their donors.
• Restrictions on the SEC and other agencies that prevent them from requiring corporations to disclose political spending to shareholders.
• A ban on funding for a vital executive order that would require federal contractors to disclose political contributions.
These are not fiscal measures—they are partisan attempts to rig the rules in favor of wealthy donors and corporate interests. They do not belong in a budget bill and should be debated openly, not buried in essential legislation.
This bill sets a dangerous precedent by using the appropriations process to quietly roll back democratic safeguards. I urge you to stand up for transparency, accountability, and free and fair elections by voting no on this budget unless these anti-democratic provisions are removed.
Our democracy is not for sale. Please protect it.
