An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Support Judicial Oversight of Delayed Epstein Files Release

5 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

I am writing to urge you to support the efforts of Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie to secure judicial oversight of the Justice Department's delayed release of Jeffrey Epstein investigative materials. The Epstein Files Transparency Act required the release of all documents, yet nearly a month past the deadline, the Justice Department has failed to comply with the law. The Justice Department's claim that reviewing approximately 2 million documents is a substantial undertaking does not excuse noncompliance with a legal mandate. While Attorney General Pam Bondi states that 500 employees are reviewing documents, with 80 attorneys recently added, she has provided no specific timeline for completion. This lack of transparency is unacceptable when the department is already in violation of the law. Representatives Khanna and Massie have filed a court request for an independent monitor to oversee the document release and to compel testimony from the Justice Department regarding the status of production. Their concerns about potential improper redactions or misconduct during the review process are legitimate. When an agency fails to meet its legal obligations, independent oversight becomes necessary to ensure accountability. The Justice Department cannot be permitted to unilaterally determine the pace and scope of compliance with a law passed by Congress. While protecting victims' privacy through legally required redactions is important, this concern does not justify indefinite delay or the absence of a concrete timeline. The department's opposition to independent monitoring raises questions about what they may be attempting to conceal. I ask that you publicly support the appointment of an independent monitor to oversee this process and demand that the Justice Department provide a specific, enforceable timeline for completing the document review and release. The rule of law requires that even the Justice Department be held accountable when it fails to comply with congressional mandates.
