An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Texas only)
Protect the freedom to read in Texas
9 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!
Enough is enough. Texans are tired of watching politicians try to control what we can read, think, and learn. Book bans are nothing but censorship, and they have no place in a free society.
Let’s be clear: public libraries belong to the people of Texas—not to lawmakers looking to score cheap political points. Libraries must reflect the full diversity of our communities. They are not your personal battleground to erase stories you dislike or silence voices you fear.
Parents already have the right to decide what’s appropriate for their own children. But no politician and no activist has the right to decide what my family can read, or what any Texan can access. When you push book bans, you are trampling on our freedoms, insulting our intelligence, and showing contempt for democracy itself.
Texas deserves better than authoritarian censorship. If you claim to stand for freedom, then prove it: stop attacking libraries, stop banning books, and start respecting the rights of every Texan.
The people are watching. And we will remember who stood on the side of liberty—and who stood on the side of censorship and control.
