An open letter to the U.S. Senate (Fla. only)

Being back the talking filibuster

I take issue with your canned response to communication regarding the filibuster. If the senate operated according to the spirit of the rule I absolutely agree that there would be “vigorous debate” regarding bills on the floor. However, the rule has been perverted and keeps legislation from even entering the debate stage. The GOP is terrified of debating most issues because, as you know, they are on the wrong side both of public opinion and morality. A large majority of Americans support initiatives like gun control, improved access to health care, a women’s right to bodily autonomy, paid family leave, voting reform, etc etc. Why should you and your colleagues have the right to block debate on these and many other issues? I also find it laughable that you hide behind your title to throw Democratic calls for unity back into their faces, when you yourself laud inflation as a “gold mine” for the GOP thereby actively cheering against your country and the well being of your constituents. You also call the left “radical.” To me, radical is catering to a disgraced former President who encouraged an attempted coup and continues to lie about election fraud, all while turning a blind eye to the continued anti-democratic and authoritarian forces taking over your party.
