The Trump administration’s decision to freeze $5 billion in congressionally approved funding for public education and children’s programs is not only illegal—it is deeply harmful to communities across the country, including ours.
This funding, included in the FY2025 spending package passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump in March, was intended to support students, classrooms, after-school programs, and summer learning opportunities. School districts were relying on these funds to provide essential services like updated curricula, technology access, and support for English learners and migrant students.
By withholding these critical resources, the administration is forcing schools to consider devastating cuts—slashing educator salaries, eliminating support services, and laying off staff. These actions will increase class sizes and diminish the quality of education for millions of children.
If the funds are not released immediately, communities will face long-term consequences that extend beyond the classroom—hurting our economy, limiting opportunity, and undermining the promise of public education.
I urge you to hold the administration accountable and demand the immediate release of these funds. Please stand with students, educators, and families—and against any attempt to strip our schools of the resources they are legally owed.
Thank you for your leadership.
