What to do about soybeans?

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I hope you’re well. I’m writing to get your thoughts on a little situation that’s been causing quite the stir. Our hardworking farmers are facing a bit of a dilemma—tariffs have cut off key export markets like China and Canada, and now they’re left to sell soybeans domestically at lower prices. Fine, they’ll push forward, right? We will get Mc Donald’s to replace the Quarter Pounder with Tofu burgers and replace beef tallow with soybean oil. But here’s the catch—Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in his capacity as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has come out swinging with some rather strong health criticisms of soybeans themselves (well, more specifically, their oil). A quick summary of RFK Jr.’s stance: • Health Risks: Apparently, the omega-6 fatty acids in seed oils (like those made from soybeans) are contributing to heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. So, soybeans = health disaster? • Processing Problems: RFK Jr. isn’t fond of how these oils are made. Chemicals, heat, trans fats—essentially a whole chemistry set that results in oils that aren’t quite the “health food” they’re marketed as. • Misleading Marketing: These oils are sold as “heart-healthy” and “cholesterol-free.” RFK Jr. thinks that’s more of a marketing gimmick than a fact. • Corporate Collusion: Big Ag and Big Pharma, according to RFK Jr., are rubbing elbows behind the scenes, profiting from both the soybeans and the health problems they cause. Classic corporate synergy at its finest. So, how do we help our farmers sell more soybeans without triggering health alarms from the very person tasked with looking out for public health? Do we just keep pushing soybeans while hoping RFK Jr. doesn’t notice? Or is there a middle ground here? I’d love to hear how you plan to juggle the economic needs of our farmers with the health concerns raised by RFK Jr. Thanks for your time!
