The Safe Schools Improvement Act aims to address and prevent bullying and harassment in schools, recognizing their detrimental impacts on students' well-being and academic performance. My step son has an issue with bullying, which is why I care deeply about this issue. This comprehensive legislation requires states receiving federal education funds to mandate that school districts establish anti-bullying policies prohibiting conduct that limits students' ability to participate in educational programs or creates a hostile environment. The policies must prohibit bullying based on characteristics like race, national origin, sex, disability, religion, and sexual orientation. Schools must provide annual notice about these policies, grievance procedures, and publicly report data on bullying incidents. The bill also calls for evidence-based discipline practices, trauma-informed interventions, and independent evaluations of anti-bullying efforts. By enacting strong anti-bullying measures, this act seeks to foster safer, more inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive. Please keep our children focused on learning in school and not worried about harassment.
