Stand strong against unconstitutional and harmful executive orders

I am writing to urge you to take decisive action—through legislation, oversight, and litigation—to address several alarming policies and proposals from President Trump’s administration. These measures undermine the Constitution, erode democratic institutions, and threaten essential rights, and they demand rigorous scrutiny and, where necessary, immediate legal intervention.
Attempts to withhold or reallocate congressionally approved funds—particularly for sanctuary cities and border wall construction—have already sparked legal challenges over separation of powers. Equally concerning was Executive Order 13957 (“Schedule F”), aiming to reclassify and potentially dismiss thousands of career federal employees, an act that would have endangered the nonpartisan civil service. While rescinded before full implementation, it set a dangerous precedent.
Meanwhile, significant budget cuts proposed for USAID, along with the weakened enforcement role of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under certain appointments, diminished the effectiveness of these vital agencies. Further damage arose from the alteration or removal of scientific and climate data from federal websites, which deprives the public of evidence-based information crucial to health, environmental, and policy decisions.
President Trump also publicly discussed ending birthright citizenship via executive order—an action viewed by most legal experts as unconstitutional without a formal amendment to the Fourteenth Amendment. Though not carried out, this proposal threatened one of our nation’s core principles of equality. Of particular concern was the ban on many transgender Americans serving in the military, which briefly went into effect despite legal challenges. While reversed by the subsequent administration, it remains a stark reminder that discriminatory orders can still surface if not proactively guarded against. Reports also indicated that detaining asylum seekers or migrants in Guantánamo Bay was at least discussed, raising grave constitutional and humanitarian questions.
Each of these issues demonstrates a pattern of overreach that Congress and the courts must unequivocally counter. I therefore urge you to sponsor and support legislation that preserves agency independence and transparency, engage in strong oversight to expose and prevent abuses, and pursue or back legal challenges that protect statutory and constitutional principles. Democracy depends on our collective vigilance to ensure no officeholder, regardless of position, is above the law. I appreciate your commitment to safeguarding the integrity of our government and upholding the rights of every American.
