Resistbot Petition: 88R Texas SB 147 discriminatory bill (Texas only)

An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Texas only)

88R Texas SB 147 discriminatory bill

79 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!

I'm writing as a resident of Texas in response to SB 147, which will outlaw the purchase of real estate in Texas by people from Iran, China, Russia, and North Korea. This bill severely discriminates against Iranian-American citizens, Green Card holders, and other legal U.S. persons. Iranian-Americans are a hard working, law-abiding, and economically successful community in the United States and the state of Texas. By paying their taxes, generating jobs, and creating business opportunities, they make remarkable contributions to the society of their choice. This bill should not be used to punish these individuals for the actions of the tyrannical Iranian regime. We explicitly ask that subsection 4 of section 5.0051 of this bill be removed which targets "an individual who is a citizen of China, Iran, North Korea, or Russia" regardless of their legal status in the United States. We are certain that American intelligence agencies can deal with any malign behavior of the Iranian regime without endangering the freedoms and ideals protected by the U.S. constitution.
