Stop ICE From Harming Children and Wrongfully Detaining U.S. Citizens

I am writing to you with deep concern and urgency regarding the escalating pattern of misconduct by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Recent incidents — including the detention of a 17-year-old Oregon high school student who is a U.S. citizen — are part of a disturbing and growing pattern of ICE detaining citizens, violating due process, and operating far outside the bounds of acceptable law enforcement behavior.
Detaining a child during the school day, without clear justification and without regard for community safety or constitutional rights, is unconscionable. These actions traumatize families, destabilize schools, and undermine public trust in every level of government.
This is not an isolated case. ICE has repeatedly held U.S. citizens, ignored basic verification protocols, and skirted the guardrails that Congress and the courts have put in place. These abuses are not only harmful — they are unlawful.
I am asking you to do everything in your power to:
Investigate ICE’s conduct in Oregon and nationally, especially incidents involving minors and U.S. citizens.
Demand accountability and transparency from ICE leadership.
Support legislation that strengthens civil rights protections, restricts ICE involvement near schools, and requires immediate verification of citizenship claims.
Publicly oppose any immigration enforcement practice that targets children, mixed-status families, schools, or individuals who have a constitutional right to be free from wrongful detention.
No agency should be allowed to operate without oversight, and no child — especially a U.S. citizen — should fear being seized by federal agents while walking to lunch.
I urge you to speak out, act quickly, and protect the people you were elected to represent. ICE must not be allowed to continue violating rights, harming children, and undermining the rule of law.
