Congress Must Act Before The War With Iran Escalates Further

CONGRESS MUST EXAMINE WHETHER THIS WAR SERVES AMERICA’S STRATEGIC INTERESTS
As a constituent, I urge you to act now to protect American lives, American taxpayers, and Congress’s constitutional role in deciding when this nation goes to war. A war with Iran carries the risk of wider regional escalation and long-term consequences that could affect the United States for years.
CONGRESS SHOULD NOT ALLOW THE UNITED STATES TO DRIFT INTO A PROLONGED CONFLICT
On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran without a declaration of war or a vote by Congress. This conflict is now entering its third week and still has no clearly defined mission, no stated exit strategy, and no obvious end in sight. The administration has offered shifting explanations for the operation - and 56% of Americans oppose the war. Congress has a responsibility to examine whether continuing this conflict advances the long-term security interests of the United States.
AMERICANS ARE ALREADY DYING - THE RISKS OF ESCALATION ARE REAL
According to recent reporting, at least 11 U.S. service members have been killed and about 140 wounded. Our troops should be sent into harm’s way only when the objectives are clear and the risks have been carefully considered. A war with Iran carries serious escalation risks across the Middle East, and Congress should carefully evaluate whether the potential consequences justify continued military involvement.
THE FINANCIAL COST OF WAR IS ALREADY RISING
Administration officials have told lawmakers that the first six days of the conflict alone cost the United States at least $11.3 billion. If the war continues for weeks or months, the cost to taxpayers could rise dramatically. Gas prices have already jumped nearly 60 cents per gallon. Congress should examine whether this conflict represents a responsible use of American resources at a time when many domestic priorities also demand attention.
CONGRESS SHOULD REQUIRE A CLEAR STRATEGY BEFORE THIS WAR CONTINUES
Under the 1973 War Powers Resolution, hostilities introduced without congressional authorization must be terminated within 60 days unless Congress authorizes their continuation. That deadline falls on April 28. Before the United States moves further down a dangerous path, Congress should require the administration to present a clear strategy, defined objectives, and a realistic plan for ending U.S. involvement. I urge Congress to hold immediate hearings and require a public explanation of the administration’s objectives, strategy, and plan for ending U.S. involvement in this conflict.
The Constitution places the decision to take the nation into war in the hands of Congress, and that responsibility cannot be delegated or ignored.
Thank you.
