I am writing as a constituent to urge you to support the NATO Unity Protection Act, bipartisan legislation introduced to ensure that the United States does not take any action—military, financial, or administrative—that would undermine the sovereignty of our NATO allies or fracture the alliance itself.
This bill is straightforward and essential. It prohibits the use of Department of Defense or Department of State funds to blockade, occupy, annex, or otherwise assert control over the territory of a NATO member state without that ally’s consent or authorization from the North Atlantic Council. In doing so, it reinforces a principle that has kept the peace in Europe for more than seventy‑five years: an attack on one is an attack on all, and no member should ever fear coercion from another.
NATO is not just a military pact—it is a stabilizing force that protects American interests, American service members, and the security of democratic nations across the North Atlantic. Undermining that unity would weaken deterrence, embolden adversaries, and place unnecessary strain on the men and women who serve in our armed forces.
America has a long tradition of supporting international cooperation, citizen‑soldiers, and principled leadership. Upholding our commitments to allies is part of that tradition. The NATO Unity Protection Act strengthens those commitments at a moment when clarity and restraint are urgently needed.
I respectfully ask you to support this legislation and to speak publicly in favor of maintaining the integrity of the NATO alliance. Our national security—and the security of our allies—depends on it.
