SHOW OVER SUBSTANCE

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. I’m trying to wrap my head around what I’m reading this morning. A number of red state governors are sending their own National Guard troops to our southern border. Why? This is such a blatant use of power for political purposes that it’s surreal. And using National Guard troops, who serve our country with the best of intentions, as complete pawns. How shameful. If I didn’t know better I’d swear there’s a rebellion fomenting in some states against the country they are a part of. Are y’all really wanting another War Between the States? Because that’s what this is looking like. Theatrics such as this may work for your reelection purposes. But it is such a disgraceful way to do it. And so harmful to our society. Why don’t you instead try and help fix immigration? The Trump administration left a mess on the issue because their sole solution seemed to be A WALL. And to look tough they created inhumane conditions. And chaos, always chaos. Clean up is always harder than destruction. We all know, or should know, a rich country next to poor countries is always going to be a problem. And until the poor counties are lifted up, or our immigration policies become workable, cheap theatrics such as what we’re seeing are just that. We should be able to do better. But maybe we can’t.
