An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stand For Humanity Regardless of Immigration Status

8 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent from Ohio to demand that you take a firm and vocal stand against the Trump administration’s inhumane and unconstitutional mass detentions of immigrants. What we are witnessing today is a stain on our democracy—an assault on due process, human dignity, and the very values this country claims to uphold. Families are being ripped apart. Children are locked in cages. Legal asylum seekers are being treated like criminals. Entire communities are living in fear. This is not a matter of immigration policy—this is state-sanctioned cruelty. It is an abuse of power that echoes some of the darkest chapters in American history. We must not forget the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II—a policy rooted in racism and fear, later acknowledged as a grave injustice by our government. That shameful period did not begin with barbed wire fences; it began with the silence of leaders and the indifference of the public. We cannot allow history to repeat itself. Utilizing sites used for Japanese internment as sites for mass incarceration today is sickening. Mass detentions without due process are a direct violation of the Constitution. These actions undermine the very foundations of our legal system and set a dangerous precedent for the future of civil liberties in this country. No human being—regardless of nationality or immigration status—should be denied their basic rights under the law. As your constituent, I am urging you to do more than issue statements. I expect you to act. I call on you to: - Publicly and unequivocally oppose the Trump administration’s policies of mass detention and deportation; - Support legislation that prohibits the indefinite detention of immigrants and ensures due process protections for all individuals in custody; - Demand immediate bipartisan oversight and accountability of ICE and CBP facilities; - Work to shut down for-profit detention centers that incentivize the suffering of human beings for corporate gain. This is not a partisan issue—it is a moral one. The eyes of history are upon us, and the consequences of inaction will be judged harshly. I implore you to show the courage this moment demands. Stand on the right side of history. Fight back.
