Protect disability rights and Medicaid for community living

Protecting Medicaid funding is crucial for people with disabilities and older adults to live independently in their communities. Medicaid covers essential services like personal care attendants, supported employment, and long-term home and community-based care that are not covered by other insurance programs. Any cuts, whether through block grants, per capita caps, work requirements, or changes to the federal matching rate, would jeopardize access to these vital services and force individuals into institutions, segregated from society. As someone with a disability who relies on Medicaid, I urge you to reject any proposals that would reduce Medicaid funding or restrict eligibility. Over 17 million people with disabilities and 6 million children with disabilities depend on Medicaid for their health care needs. Cutting Medicaid would strip away our ability to live with dignity and independence in our communities. Instead of cutting Medicaid, I implore you to safeguard and strengthen this lifeline program. Millions of Americans with disabilities are counting on you to protect their freedom, autonomy, and quality of life by fully funding Medicaid without harmful restrictions or caps. Upholding the civil rights of the disability community should be a top priority. Please take a stand against any measures that would undermine Medicaid's promise of community living for all.
