Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
The assault on our government structure continues unabated. Our citizens read about what’s happening. But we are not privy to the full extent of the long-term damage being done. And I expect we couldn’t absorb the magnitude of the real truth even if we knew it.
But what we can see is bad enough to make us call our elected reps. To write letters. To get our feet in the street. To begin a reaction to everything we’re seeing. That’s what we can do to show our concern. And our outrage.
We the people.
While Elon Musk boasts that instead of going to some good parties, he’s shuttering government agencies. While strong-arming every faction of our civil service to head for the door. Or else.
While our president fires the board of the Kennedy Center and boasts he will appoint himself as chairman to usher in a golden age of arts and culture. He does this in between dreams of annexing Canada. Invading Greenland. Seizing the Panama Canal. And wiping Palestinians off the face of Gaza. For their own good. And for the real estate development of a lifetime.
Y’all on the other hand sit quietly. Acting befuddled when asked the simplest of questions about everything we’re watching. Or agreeing to it all. Swallowing everything that comes your way as just politics as usual and all being done for the good of the country. No harm being done.
They know what they’re doing. Even if we do not.
Acting like you are in control. Even though you are not.
You pat yourselves on the back for asking probing questions while confirming some of the worst cabinet nominees in our country’s history. Approval justified in your minds by declarations of ‘all questions were answered.’ All concerns alleviated. Promises made that past bad behavior or crazy beliefs are no longer a concern. You might as well plead ‘Lie to me. Please.’
So we’ll be watching, again, as you confirm Kash Patel. A nominee who we just learned was paid by a Russian propagandist filmmaker to spread anti-western conspiracy theories. But I’m sure you’ll sleep easy after his confirmation as top cop knowing he has agreed to disavow his entire past history and belief system, because you asked probing questions and he answered truthfully. He has seen the light because of your efforts to root out possible deception on his part. Done and done.
Loyalty has blinded you. You have deserted your country.
