While You’re Renaming Everything, Rename the Presidency Trumpery

Mr. President, Your talent for branding is extraordinary. When your administration faces difficult questions, you know how to give the headlines a fresh name: the Gulf of America, Lake America, even “Super Intelligence.” And your Department of War rebrand could cost taxpayers up to $125 million. Few leaders can turn a new label into such an expensive substitute for an answer. In that spirit, I recommend one final rebrand: rename this presidency “Trumpery.” As a noun, trumpery means worthless nonsense. As an adjective, it means showy but worthless or deceptive. A trumpery promise dazzles the crowd and delivers nothing. A trumpery announcement makes a grand entrance, then leaves the public waiting for substance.
