Oppose Trump EPA's Elimination of Clean Air Regulations and Endangerment Finding

I’m writing to urge you engage legal allies and sue the Trump Environmental Protection Agency's to block its intent to eliminate dozens of regulations supporting clean air and public health. Most concerning is the reconsideration of the endangerment finding, the landmark scientific and legal determination established in 2009 that climate pollution harms public health and welfare. This coupled with the rollback of emission standards for the automotive industry are all dangerous to human health. None of the businesses, certainly not anyone in the fossil fuel or auto industries has been driven out of business by maintaining clean air standards. It’s purely self-interest to eliminate anything that gets in the way of profits. It’s clear to everyone by now that we want our government to stop this destructive rampage by these industries that have held much of the Republican and even some Democrats hostage to their demands. These regulations have protected millions of Americans for years. Weakening or eliminating them would jeopardize public health, particularly for vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. The EPA has an obligation to follow the science and the law, not to dismantle protections that save lives. This deregulation will affect emissions from power plants, oil and gas facilities, cars, trucks, and other sources that directly impact the air quality in our communities. The endangerment finding serves as the linchpin of many climate regulations that protect Americans from harmful air pollution. When EPA concluded in 2009 that greenhouse gas emissions endanger public health and the environment, it did so based on rigorous scientific evidence and sound legal analysis. That evidence has only grown stronger in the fifteen years since. Conrad Schneider, Senior Director at Clean Air Task Force, noted that this action contradicts the EPA's core mission to protect human health and the environment. Shaun Goho, Legal Director at the same organization, warned that unraveling these public health protections will have dire consequences for communities nationwide. The scientific evidence clearly demonstrates that Clean Air Act regulations are critical for protecting communities by reducing harmful air pollution. I urge you to take a strong public stance against these proposed changes and use your position to block any attempts to weaken or eliminate clean air standards. Our communities depend on these protections, and they must remain in place. Thank you.
