Block all funding for the Forest Service relocation and restructuring until the full implications have been studied, debated, and voted on by the people's elected representatives in Congress. This administration announced via press release that it will relocate headquarters to Salt Lake City, eliminate all ten regional offices, and consolidate over fifty research facilities into one location.
Congress never authorized this dismantling of a 121-year-old agency that manages 193 million acres of public land. When BLM headquarters relocated during the first Trump administration, 87% of staff were lost. Of 328 positions ordered to move, only 41 employees relocated at all and just three went to the new headquarters. That was not efficiency. That was intentional destruction of institutional knowledge and expertise. The Forest Service restructuring will cause the same devastation at twenty times the scale.
This violates more than 120 years of legislation that Congress has passed to manage public lands for the public good. The administration is replacing trained professionals with fifteen political appointees embedded in state capitals alongside industry lobbyists. More than 50 long-term research facilities cannot be moved or consolidated without destroying decades of irreplaceable work. Thirty-year watershed studies, old-growth monitoring programs, and deep institutional knowledge built over generations will be lost permanently when these facilities close.
This is not a reorganization — it’s the destruction of a federal agency by executive fiat and Congress must intervene! Do not permit this to proceed or you will be directly responsible for the destruction that follows.
