Defend Free and Fair Elections—Before It's Too Late

I’m writing with deep alarm about the mounting threats to our democracy, particularly the dangerous erosion of election integrity. If we do not act swiftly and decisively, we may lose the last vestiges of free and fair elections in this country by 2026. According to recent reports, Pam Bondi’s Department of Justice is exploring ways to prosecute local and state election officials simply for overseeing elections in which too many Democrats win. As The New York Times reported: “The department’s effort, which is still in its early stages, is not based on new evidence, data or legal authority, according to the people, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe internal discussions. Instead, it is driven by the unsubstantiated argument made by many in the Trump administration that American elections are easy prey to voter fraud and foreign manipulation.” This baseless and politically motivated pursuit appears to be laying the groundwork for a Russian-style election interference campaign, in which loyalty to a regime outweighs the rule of law, and opposition victories are treated as criminal. I urge you to fight this with everything you’ve got. We need you to: • Hold public hearings exposing this scheme. • Pass legislation protecting nonpartisan election workers from intimidation and politically motivated prosecution. • Demand accountability and transparency from the Department of Justice. • Speak out boldly and often—this must be on the public’s radar before it is too late. History will not be kind to silence. If we allow the criminalization of legitimate election outcomes, we will no longer be a functioning democracy. Please—stand up now.
