An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Release Cancer Victim Arbella "Yari" Rodriguez Marquez, Americans are Merciful

13 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am writing to urge your immediate intervention in the case of Arbella “Yari” Rodriguez Marquez, a legal U.S. resident currently detained by ICE at Eloy Detention Center in Arizona. Yari has been in custody for more than five months while battling leukemia, a life-threatening illness requiring specialized care. Her health is rapidly deteriorating. Continued detention under these conditions is inhumane and places her life at serious risk. ICE has full authority to grant humanitarian release in cases involving severe medical vulnerability. This is both a matter of basic human rights and a question of public accountability for how immigration detention handles medically fragile individuals. I respectfully request that you: • Urge ICE and DHS to grant Arbella “Yari” Rodriguez Marquez immediate humanitarian release. • Conduct oversight into the detention of seriously ill individuals at Eloy and similar facilities. • Publicly support Yari’s right to receive care in the community, not in confinement. Detention should not be a death sentence. Health care is a human right. Please act now.
