An open letter to the U.S. Congress

If not cruelty, what is the point? Stop ICE.

10 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

Undocumented immigrants cannot receive public benefits. They are not eligible for food stamps, housing, heating assistance, public welfare, or healthcare. They cost the United States nothing. They do, however, contribute to the United States. They pay taxes, but cannot claim refunds. Their dollars pay into the economy at large and the state tax systems as well. It is estimated by CATO that immigrants- documented and undocumented- have contributed over $14T since 1994. That’s enough to erase the national deficit, but Trump and his minions aren’t really interested in the benefits of hosting them. It costs $180 million a year to run Dilley, just one of the ICE concentration camps. One. Single. Center. Multiply that by the number of existing camps plus the number of camps currently in development. Go ahead. I’ll wait. So we are shooting ourselves in the foot twice, once for the wealth generated by undocumented workers and again for the drain on taxpayer dollars to pay $40 billion/year to run this ethnic cleansing concentration camp program. Where is the humanity? Where is the fiscal responsibility? If not cruelty, WHAT IS THE POINT?
